Pyramid of Intervention

Administrative Team - the principal and four assistant principals; meets twice weekly; makes final decisions on school-related issues

Leadership Team - formerly called "Department Chairs"; meets monthly as liaisons between administration and departments; takes information back to department meetings.

Departments - faculty divided by discipline (e.g. math, English, world languages, science); meets monthly to receive and discuss information from both administration and county supervisors; make curriculum-related decisions for their areas of concentration.

Houses - two magnet programs and four grade levels of the University program; provide students with consistency re: administrators, counselors, classmates, etc.; University houses in course of being developed.

PTSA (Parent/Teacher/Student Association) - part of national program to unit parents, teachers, and students in school enhancement efforts; meets monthly; raises funds for teacher recognition and mini-grants.

SAC (School Advisory Council) - comprised of faculty members, administrators, students, parents, and community members; oversees major decisions of administration and faculty, such as finalization of School Improvement Plan; meets monthly.

School SMARTS (School Meetings to Articulate with, Recruit, and Team with Stakeholders) - meets monthly; purpose is to provide information to parents and other community members re: varying aspects of PHUHS (e.g. house development, FCAT preparation); new this year.

Visionary Team - meets almost every month during the school year; is comprised of community members, administrators, and one teacher from each department; focuses on the "big picture" (i.e. where PHUHS is headed and how it will achieve the goals needed to reach its destination).

Mini-Faculty Meetings - held alternating months for purpose of teacher training; training has included working with FCAT preparation data and using technology; can be facilitated by staff member or outside presenter.

Full Faculty Meetings - held alternating months (alternate with mini-faculty meetings); purposes are dissemination of information and unification of faculty; held in Teaching Auditorium.

Guidance - department housed in administration building that guides students in course selections and career choices; assists students in completing the college application process, provides one-on-one counseling re: personal and academic problems, as needed.

Child Study - part of staffing model that consists of the school social worker's and school psychologist's assessment of a student's situation and needs; performed on an as-needed basis.

Summer Institute - held for first time in summer of 2007; purpose is to identify school's needs and devise solutions to be implemented by cross-functional teams during the school year.

SPC Partnership - newly-formed connection between St. Petersburg College, Tarpon Campus, and PHUHS; initial goals are to enhance FCAT scores and guide students through post-secondary training to become ready for the workforce.

Cross-Functional Teams - large number and variety of teams which cross disciplines (e.g., Sunshine and Social, Technology, House Development, FCAT Success); meet monthly; make decisions in specified areas for enhanced school operation and highest student performance.
