Upon completion the student should be able to:
Objectives: Chapter 8 Stoichiometry
- Interpret balanced chemical equations in terms of interacting
representative particles and moles
- Calculate stoichoimetric quantities from balanced equations
using mass units
- Identify limiting and excess reagents
- Calculate stoimetric quantities of products when more than one
reactant quantity is given
- Calculate the theoretical yield, actual yield or percentage
yields for a chemical reaction
Objectives: Chapter 9 States of Matter
- Describe the motion of particles of a gas according to kinetic
theory
- Interpret gas pressure in terms of kinetic theory.
- Show that the temperature of a substance is a measure of
kinetic energy
- Describe the nature of a solid, liquid, gas in terms of
attractive forces between particles
- Describe what happens on a particle level at the boiling point
of a liquid.
- Interpret the phase diagram of water at any given temperature
and pressure.
- Define boiling and melting.
- Define heat of fusion and heat of vaporization.
- Interpret an energy diagram showing the phase changes of water
- Calculate the pressure due to a trapped gas using a simple
manometer.
- Convert pressure values. mm Hg, Torr, Atm, Kpa
- Convert degrees Celcius to Kelvins.
