Chapter 8 Stoichiometry

Pre-test

1. If 20.0 grams of zinc react with excess hydrochloric acid, how many grams of zinc chloride are produced? Zn + HCl ---> ZnCl2+ H2

2. How many grams of chlorine gas must be reacted with excess sodium iodide if 10.0 grams of sodium chloride are needed?

2 NaI + Cl2 ---> 2 NaCl + I2

3. How many grams of oxygen are produced in the decomposition of 5.00 grams of potassium chlorate?

2 KClO3 ----> 2 KCl + 3O2

Given the following equation; (Questions 4 - 5)

2 KOH + (NH4)2SO4 ----> K2SO4 + 2 NH4OH

4. If 2.0 moles of KOH reacted with 2.00 moles of (NH4)2SO4, how many moles of K2SO4 will be produced? Which is the limiting reagent?

5. If 20.0 grams of KOH react with 15.0 grams of ammonium sulfate how many grams of ammonium hydroxide will be produced?

6. 20.0 grams of zinc reacts with 19.0 grams of hydrochloric acid how many, grams of hydrogen will be produced?

7. How many grams of zinc chloride will be produced in problem # 6. What is the limiting reagent in problem #6 ? What is the excess reagent in problem #6 ?

8. How many grams of the excess reagent in problem #6 will remain after the reaction stops ?

9. If 5.2 liters of H2 is actually produced in the lab in problem #6 calculate the percentage yield.

10 Given the following equation: Ca3(PO4)2 + H2SO4---> CaSO4+ H3PO4 Calculate the mass of calcium sulfate that can be produced from the reaction of 1.0kg of calcium phosphate with 1.0kg of sulfuric acid (98% H2SO4 by weight).
